| May Lincoln, Centurion: 26th May 2011 |
| Many of us may have thought that Thursday
the 26th of May was just another day, full of the same monotonous
routines and tasks that fill up the majority of our lives. However, one
very special lady had a rather important day; for Thursday the 26th of
May was the hundredth birthday of May Lincoln. A few members of St Faith's went by to visit her, with Charmaine Sabey-Corkindale giving a communion service within May’s home. The first thing we noticed, apart from the radiant smile on May’s face, was the immense number of cards that she had received from dozens of her friends and family, and in pride of place, her card from the Queen. In fact, during the service, even more cards were given to her, and you got the feeling that they would just keep coming through the day. For May’s communion service we had the hymns ‘Make me a channel of your peace’, ‘Be still for the presence of the Lord’ and May’s personal favourite, ‘Jerusalem’, which reached its dramatic climax just as the heavens started to open. Reflecting back, we thought about just how much May must have seen, all the changes in the world and all the friends she has. We wish her all the best for her birthday and afterwards, and thank her for the remarkable contribution she has made to the lives of so many. So, on behalf of the congregation of St Faiths, and all who know her, a very happy birthday to you, May, and thank you. Philip Mitchell |
