| St Faith's Over 60's Street Party - May 2011 |
| Over 60’s street
party Some people thought they’d been left out of the Walsworth over 60’s annual tea party since it was held rather later than usual this year. The main reason was that Easter was very late but then, close on its heels, followed the Royal wedding! So, the organisers, St Faiths Mothers Union, decided to host their own tribute to the Royal couple & host an over 60’s indoor street party!! The service, led by our vicar Charmaine, reflected the theme of love and the hymns were those which were sung at the Royal couples wedding at Westminster on April 29th. St Faiths was decorated with red white & blue bunting around the tea tables area, the tables laid with blue & white tablecloths topped with red serviettes & the delicious food was prepared & served by helpers who were also all dressed in our patriotic colours!! There were a couple of magazines & newspaper cuttings for people to look at to enrich the event and even the flower arrangements were done in red, white & blue! When the eating & drinking was finished, the guests – which numbered over 50! – were asked to turn over their empty tea plates to see whose plate had a red dot stuck to the bottom of it. Those folk who had the red dot were lucky enough to take home one of Mavis’s lovely flower decorations! Whilst the guests let their tea go down, they were sung to by Rose Norris who was accompanied on the piano by Philip Mitchell & to finish off the proceedings, Mavis gave everyone a song sheet so that they could all join her as she led everyone in some old time songs. For those who live alone, it was a welcome – even if it was a bit belated! – chance to have some of the fun that the rest of the country had enjoyed on the actual day. A jolly good time was had by all – well done ladies!! Penny Mitchell |
