I am not a believer in coincidences so much as God-incidences. One example occurred last December when, as usual, I attended the Holy Saviour Christmas Tree Festival Preview Concert. For the second time I heard James Risdon play the recorder, and was reminded what an extremely beautiful and versatile instrument it is when played professionally. Having realised with sorrow that flute playing, which had been my profession, was becoming physically difficult, it struck me that the recorder was the solution. So I bought a tenor one, and found a new world opening up. Two months later I joined the local Society of Recorder players, and soon after that the Peregrine Recorder orchestra with music in up to 11 parts, and including enormous contra basses amongst others. I have rejoined the St. Faith’s music group, and Mike Attwood and I are hoping to start a Recorder Consort, and are offering free tuition to people of any age who would like to learn. We have already been given a sopranino recorder (shown below) by a member of Holy Saviour Church, and would welcome any more instruments. Mary Brenchley |
